Beijing Completes Open Tender for Olympic Projects
2008 Olympic venues and relevant construction projects have been completed in Beijing Saturday. A bidding combo, made up of eleven Chinese and overseas companies, won the tender for the National Gymnasium and the Olympic Athletes' Village, while the bid of the Convention Center went to another consortium, consisting of two local enterprises Beijing North Star Industrial Ltd. and Beijing Real Estate Group Ltd. The Beijing Olympic organizers have also finished the tender for four other major Olympic projects, including the National Swimming Center, the National Stadium, the Wukesong Cultural and Sports Complex, and the Olympic Aquatic Park .These projects demand a total investment of about 20.5 billion yuan (US$2.48 billion), eighty-five percent of which will be raised through marketing mechanism. The ten to twelve global sponsors, authorized by the IOC, are expected to be determined within several months. The Beijing Organizing Committee of the Olympic Games (BOCOG) reveal that it has employed an institution to investigate more than fouty Chinese leading companies in nineteen industries, including automobile, telecommunications, computer, household electrical appliance, beer and pharmaceutical manufacturers. Coca Cola, Swatch and Kodak have already signed contracts with the IOC to act as global sponsors for the Beijing 2008 Olympic Games. Another ten to fifteen sponsors will be decided by the BOCOG by the end of the year via international bidding. And the BOCOG will start to sign agreements with the selected suppliers and issue sponsorship licenses before 2005. Japan and Taiwan won the Asia round, then the two teams going to 2008 Beijing Olympic. The U.S.A. team lost Mexico team. That means Roger Clements who retired the New York Yankees end of this season, can’t play in Olympic field anymore. Because he is forty-one years old, the age usually can’t play in MLB. I really like Roger Clements’s challenge, but I think the problem is MLB organization didn’t let MLB players in the Olympic. The U.S.A. was a top of baseball country, but in recently, the baseball is globalized all of the world. I think the result of U.S.A team lost in elimination round will better result next Olympic seasons.
