ID checks for blood donors required in Shanghai
Shanghai has introduced an identity card checking system to prevent blood sellers from assuming other people's names to donate blood for illegal profits. "As some employees are unwilling to donate blood, some employers or staffers themselves hire 'professional' blood dealers or sellers to donate blood in order to fulfill the quota," said Shanghai Blood Administration Office’s spokesman. The office uncovered eleven companies which hired professionals to donate blood instead of their own employees, and five such dealers have been jailed for up to two years. The errant firms were fined between 10,000 yuan (US$1,205) and 100,000 yuan.
Voluntary blood donation is one of the common volunteer and doing volunteer for saving someone’s life. Usually volunteer is helping people; moreover, blood donation can save someone to using one’s extra blood. That is really sounds great. However, some poor people think making money for donate blood. I never heard of people who are selling blood which coming form donation, and also how are they going to the blood? Of course they are selling to someone, but who need blood except hospital? But, Hospitals can get blood from the Red Cross Society (blood center), right? Do these hospitals buy the blood from the Red Cross? I don’t think so. Their concept is willing to help people, so must be free.
Therefore, Chinese people usually think that give something in one’s body to somebody which receiving from parents, is reluctant to do except student who are going to medical school. Medical school student have a duty to donate blood, only except during having period. In China has problem with Type B hepatitis, so before the exam they have some checkups, like blood test and physical exam. They also have a weight limit which men’s weight over 50kg and women have to have 45kg. Volume is also set up by law which is 200cc. Some girls don’t like to donate blood, so they are starting diet and escape from donate blood. In U.S.A after donate blood there are some drink and food, but in China doesn’t have a room anymore. Instead of drink and foods, they pay for student which is 150 yuan. Also, some schools give one week vacation after school events of blood donate for all students either donated or not. Likewise, people who donate blood can get some special treatments when the people need medical care like medical expense. In Oct. 1998 established中華人民共和国献血法 the laws urge the necessity of blood donation. It is not enough time to expand blood donation, but I hope a lot of people join volunteer works read this my journal.
