Following up the recent news on Taiwan wanting to break away from mainland China, Russia states that it does not want Taiwan to break away from the mainland. In Russia’s statement, generally, they do not want Taiwan to leave China and they believe that the People’s Republic of China is the only legitimate government representing the Chinese people, although Taiwan is a very important part of China. It seems that many of the countries against Taiwan’s sovereignty are standing as such because they do not want a war to break out. Also, like America, Russia does not want to be dragged into a war and forced to choose a side. Since it is highly unlikely that there is any way Taiwan can break away peacefully, most countries are somewhat forced to stand on the side of the People’s Republic of China, whether they support one side or another. Russia also stated that it has always considered the Taiwan situation an internal China problem, obviously showing they want no part in the situation if it does happen that Taiwan splits.
